Grong Grong is a small town situated on the Newell Highway and only 23 kilometers east of Narrandera which is in the Riverina region of NSW. Grong Grong comes from an aboriginal word meaning “bad camping” we found it to be a perfect camp spot. The actual camp is to park on the road and is only suitable for caravans, camper-vans and RVs with a maximum stay of 72 hours. Tent camping is prohibited, plus there is an automatic sprinkler system that waters the park during the night. The camp has free hot showers, flushing toilets, rubbish bins, BBQ, picnic tables, kids playground, pet friendly and has power at the BBQ which is only to charge electrical items. Sounds too good to be true, right ! Wait there’s more the general store next door has free bike hire as well as all the supplies you need. Across the road there is community garden that you are allowed to take within reason what is ripe, and the is also a sharing shed which contains books and magazines to read or swap.

The Royal Hotel also offers free camping for caravans, camper-vans and RV’s, we didn’t stay here but we did check it out. There is 6 to 7 spaces on flat ground, I would say the publican would want you to have a meal or a few drinks in return for camping.
